SUMMARY
Project Accountants are responsible for ensuring the accurate accounting for their assigned construction projects, completing monthly reporting and analysis, and supporting Project Managers to meet project financial targets. They are also responsible for completing project set up and management activities as well as balance sheet account reconciliations. The purpose of this role is to conduct accounting and financial maintenance for a variety of assigned projects. Specific job duties can vary depending on the project(s) assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Project Accounting:
• Ensure accurate S&P Cost Control methodology for all assigned projects. Review all cost and budget reporting for accuracy prior to reporting to BU leadership and Corporate.
• Review the Budget with PM and perform any budget transfers required.
• Review Job Cost Detail and assist the PM with monthly MA preparation.
• Add project phase codes per the GMP, budget, and/or change order requirements.
• Reclassify any costs coded to the incorrect phase code or project.
• Assist PM with GC costs and monthly projections.
• Audit the monthly contingency, allowance, and buyout logs to ensure the system and owner billings reconcile.
• Review job cost reports to ensure accurate owner billings of incurred costs (booked vs. billed cost review).
• Resolve any accounting discrepancies with Subcontracts, MSA Agreements, and PO's.
• Enter change order transactions and reconcile all project-related accounts for General Requirements and General Conditions (S&P SP, Greco, Westway, JLG, etc.).
• Audit final job costs for project closeout - ensure all change orders have been issued and executed.
• Assist Project Team and Admin Staff with any Subcontractor/Vendor-related accounting matters.
• Ensure accurate S&P Change Order methodology for all assigned projects.
• Assist process team with processing Owner Change Orders and Subcontractor / Vendor Change Orders, including correct budget management within the change order process.
• Assist Subcontractors with questions regarding change order discrepancies, pay app revisions, required backup documentation, project forms, wage rates, etc.
• Assist the project team with processing Owner and Subcontractor / Vendor pay applications.
• Prepare and pull together the billing backup documentation as required by the owner.
• Perform other duties related to project cost, budget, change management, billing, and reporting duties as delegated by the reporting manager.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study.
• 4+ years of accounting experience in construction project cost accounting
