National Security & International Trade Junior Associate
Location: Washington, DC
Compensation: $215,000 – $260,000 per year, based on experience

Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 100 firm seeking a National Security and International Trade Junior Associate to join its dynamic Washington, DC office. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated attorney to build their career within a high-performing, collaborative team advising clients on complex global trade and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advise clients on a range of national security and international trade regulations, including:

  • Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

  • Foreign ownership, control, or influence (FOCI) mitigation strategies

  • Sanctions compliance (OFAC) and other trade-related restrictions

• Assist in regulatory filings, internal compliance reviews, and enforcement matters

• Conduct legal research, prepare memoranda, and draft client communications

• Support corporate transactions with national security and export control components

• Participate in client meetings and contribute to high-level strategy discussions

Qualifications:

• 2–3 years of relevant legal experience in national security, export controls, or international trade compliance

• Strong knowledge of U.S. regulatory frameworks (e.g., EAR, ITAR, OFAC, CFIUS)

• Excellent academic credentials from a top-tier law school

• Outstanding analytical, research, and communication skills

• Proactive, organized, and capable of working independently and collaboratively

• Admission to the Bar in good standing (DC Bar preferred or eligibility to waive in)
