Medical Assistant Pediatric Float / Laboratory Medical Assistant
This Medical Assistant Floater role provides both clinical and administrative support in pediatric settings, delivering high-quality, team-based patient care under the direct supervision of a clinician. The position combines traditional medical assistant duties with laboratory responsibilities, including performing a full range of phlebotomy and laboratory testing procedures. The floater supports clinicians and care management teams in promoting health and wellness, maintaining chronic disease management, and ensuring a safe, friendly, and patient-centered environment across multiple pediatric offices.
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-facing care in pediatric settings under the direct supervision of a clinician.
- Support clinicians and care management teams in assessing patients and maintaining chronic disease management.
- Perform both clinical and administrative functions to promote health and wellness in a safe and friendly environment.
- Carry out all laboratory testing procedures according to established protocols and quality standards.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks, with a focus on pediatric patients.
- Report laboratory results accurately and promptly to the healthcare clinician.
- Alert the healthcare clinician to any critical or out-of-range laboratory values and document all critical reports appropriately.
- Utilize electronic medical records (EMR) systems to document patient information, lab results, and clinical activities.
- Float between multiple clinical sites as scheduled, functioning either as a Medical Assistant or as a dedicated Laboratory Medical Assistant, depending on daily assignment.
- Adhere to clinical, laboratory, and safety protocols to maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
- Engage with patients and families in a professional, courteous manner to support a positive patient experience.
- Collaborate effectively with the care team to ensure efficient clinic flow and timely patient care.
Essential Skills
- Active Medical Assistant Certification or a minimum of 3 years of Medical Assistant experience in lieu of certification.
- Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Active and valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated flexibility and a strong desire or passion for working in pediatrics.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy, including venipuncture, finger sticks, and heel sticks.
- Ability to perform and process laboratory testing procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Working knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare workflows.
- Ability to provide patient-facing care in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Capacity to float between multiple sites and adapt to different clinical teams and workflows.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Formal Medical Assistant Diploma or Certification strongly preferred when less than 3 years of MA experience.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing laboratory tests and documenting results.
- Effective communication skills to relay critical or out-of-range lab values to clinicians and document critical reports.
- Ability to balance both clinical and administrative tasks in a busy outpatient environment.
- Comfort working with technology, including computers and EMR systems, in daily clinical operations.
Work Environment
This is a patient-facing, indoor role in pediatric outpatient clinics. The Medical Assistant Floater works at multiple sites within the Jacksonville, FL area, reporting to only one site per day with no mid-day travel between locations. Primary locations include several pediatric offices in Jacksonville and St. Johns, FL. The standard schedule follows a Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. shift, with the possibility of starting up to one hour earlier or staying up to one hour later as needed. The role involves frequent use of computers and electronic medical records systems, regular interaction with patients and families, and hands-on clinical and laboratory work. The environment is professional, team-oriented, and focused on providing safe, friendly, and high-quality pediatric care.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40000.00 - $48500.00/yr. Full benefits, medical, dental, 401k.
