POSITION SUMMARY The Laboratory Technician is responsible for the full management and daily operations of the clinic lab at Brevard Health Alliance. This role supports high-quality care for culturally diverse populations by ensuring accurate specimen collection, processing, reconciliation, and compliance with all safety and quality standards. The Laboratory Technician performs venipuncture and manages a variety of tests including glucose tolerance, pregnancy testing, swabs, urine drug screening, and other complex specimen types. This position also oversees lab inventory, equipment sterilization, and coordination with clinical and external lab teams to ensure timely and reliable diagnostic support. GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS •High School Diploma or General Equivalency/Educational Diploma (GED) •Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Technician training program •Certification in Phlebotomy required •Verifiable related experience as a phlebotomist for a minimal of 2 years preferred ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS •Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross •Proficient using an Electronic Medical Record PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Duties include but are not limited to: •Perform venipuncture and collect biological specimens including blood, urine, swabs, and others •Manage glucose tolerance tests, pregnancy tests, Pap specimens, swabs, urine drug screenings, and other complex lab tests •Process, prepare, and reconcile all specimens for in-house and external laboratory analysis •Accurately label, store, and transport specimens according to protocol and compliance guidelines •Explain procedures to patients and provide reassurance during specimen collection •Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all test results are properly recorded in the EMR •Order and maintain inventory of lab supplies and materials •Clean, calibrate, and sterilize lab equipment and safely dispose of biohazardous waste in accordance with OSHA standards •Monitor quality assurance processes and participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives •Serve as the primary liaison between the clinic and external laboratories to track specimen status and resolve issues •Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and management to ensure efficient lab workflows •Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant lab environment •Perform other clinical or administrative tasks as assigned •Takes ownership and represents Brevard Health Alliance’s mission and organizational goals established by the executive committee. These include, but are not limited to: Productivity, Quality, Patient Satisfaction, and Employee Retention. It is the duty of each BHA employee to incorporate these goals into all daily work routines and strive to achieve and surpass all goals by working as a team.
