POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
KKCS is seeking a Junior M&O Project/Program Manager to support the Facilities Environmental Technical Unit (FETU) in the Los Angeles Unified School District. The selected candidate will assist in managing, coordinating, and expediting various construction, modernization, and repair projects for school facilities, administrative buildings, and other district properties. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, demonstrate effective collaboration with multiple departments, and ensure projects meet safety, environmental, and quality standards. The position is full-time, W2, and onsite in Los Angeles, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in planning, coordinating, and expediting projects related to the construction, modernization, and repair of schools and other district facilities.
• Serve as a liaison between District Project Management Units, Maintenance & Operations Areas, Environmental Consultants, and Abatement Contractors.
• Review Requests for Assistance (RFAs) with FETU technical staff, define project scope, and assess project drawings.
• Conduct initial funding line reviews and collaborate with facilities accounting for appropriate project funding. Prepare and submit funding request packages.
• Plan and monitor project progress, ensuring job tracking and labor charge reporting is accurate.
• Obtain and evaluate cost proposals from environmental consultants for accuracy and feasibility.
• Work with technical staff to estimate the costs associated with asbestos and lead abatement.
• Initiate and manage asbestos and lead abatement contracts, task orders, and job order contracts (JOC).
• Coordinate and assist in scheduling lead and asbestos abatement before demolition and renovation projects in school facilities, ensuring proper temporary housing for staff and students.
• Review contractor submittals, daily logs, and certified payroll for invoice approval.
• Assess requests for scope changes and evaluate the merit of change orders and potential cost increases.
• Provide support for project closeout and certification with FETU technical staff.
• Prepare bid processing requests and coordinate the contract award process.
• Update the FETU project tracking sheet to ensure project progress is accurately monitored.
• Attend job start meetings to review asbestos, lead, and safety requirements, document discussions, and distribute meeting minutes to project participants.
Required Experience & Education:
• Minimum of 3 years of full-time paid professional experience in the Project/Construction
Management of projects, preferably in an educational facility construction project or public agency projects, involved in all phases of the construction project, including pre-construction activities and planning, monitoring construction progress, and close-out activities.
• Experience in safety construction protocols, Cal OSHA requirements, and environmental procedures is a plus.
• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or
construction Management, or the Environmental field. Candidates without a degree may compensate for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualification:
• Use of Asset and Work Management System (Maximo)
