EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR NONPROFIT ~ ROCHESTER, NY THE OPPORTUNITY EDI is proud to partner with Cameron Community Ministries, a leading nonprofit service organization that provides food, clothing, and K-6 after school programs in search of its next Executive Director. POSITION OVERVIEW The Executive Director (ED) will be a visionary leader responsible for advancing the organization’s mission while ensuring financial sustainability, program effectiveness, and community impact. Working closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners, the ED will strengthen and expand the organization’s services. This role requires a collaborative and dynamic leader with expertise in nonprofit management, fundraising, and advocacy. The ED will oversee financial stewardship, staff leadership, strategic planning, and external relations, ensuring our organization remains a trusted community resource. Additionally, the ED will enhance the organization’s visibility, secure funding, and build strategic partnerships to maximize impact.
The pay for this position is $84,000 with room for negotiation, and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & VISION Provide consistent, stable leadership to guide the organization through transitions and long-term growth Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the organization’s mission, values, and goals Lead organizational planning, ensuring programs and initiatives are responsive to community needs
GOVERNANCE & BOARD ENGAGEMENT Serve as the primary liaison between the Board of Directors and staff Meet regularly with the Board Chair to problem-solve, plan, and anticipate challenges in the execution of the organization’s work Provide the Board with monthly updates on financial health, strategic initiatives, challenges, and successes Collaborate with the Board Chair and committees to establish and implement policies and governance best practices Assist in Board recruitment, development, and training to ensure strong organizational oversight
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT & SUSTAINABILITY Oversee the financial health of the organization, ensuring responsible budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including grants, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and individual giving Strengthen financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and transparency Lead revenue-generating strategies to diversify funding sources and ensure long-term sustainability
PROGRAM & OPERATIONS OVERSIGHT Ensure efficient and effective daily operations that align with strategic goals Oversee program development, implementation, and evaluation to measure impact and effectiveness across all of the organization’s programs Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and grant and funding requirements Develop and implement policies and procedures that support an effective and inclusive work environment
STAFF LEADERSHIP & CULTURE DEVELOPMENT Build and maintain a strong, motivated, and high-performing team Oversee hiring, training, performance management, and professional development opportunities Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning Implement equitable HR policies and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts across the organization
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT & EXTERNAL RELATIONS Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating its mission, vision, and impact Build and maintain relationships with donors, funders, government agencies, and community partners Advocate for the organization’s mission at the local and state levels Strengthen the organization’s visibility through marketing, public relations, and strategic partnerships
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience in nonprofit management. Master’s or higher degree preferred or equivalent work experience Leadership Experience: Proven high-level leadership experience, preferably in a not-for-profit setting Strategic Thinking: Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans with measurable outcomes Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and revenue generation Fundraising & Development: Experience leading successful fundraising initiatives, grant writing, and donor relations Operational & Program Oversight: Experience in program management, staff leadership, and organizational development Community Engagement: Track record of fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders and advocacy efforts Board Governance: Experience working with or serving on a nonprofit board, understanding governance best practices Commitment to Equity & Inclusion: Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse environment and implementing DEI strategies within an organization
