POSITION OVERVIEW SECTION The employee shall serve as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET), responsible for inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and supporting a wide range of medical and simulation equipment in accordance with Air Force standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable regulations. This role supports the readiness and operational effectiveness of medical systems by ensuring safety, functionality, and compliance with maintenance protocols. Essential Job Functions
Perform testing, calibration, repair, and preventive maintenance on medical and simulation equipment using manufacturer manuals, schematics, hand/power tools, and analysis instruments. Inspect and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment, identifying faulty components such as motors, transformers, and circuit boards for repair or replacement. Maintain accurate records of all equipment servicing, repairs, upgrades, and status assessments. Evaluate in-use equipment for condition, recommend upgrades or replacements, and determine serviceability or disposal in compliance with applicable regulations. Provide training and operational guidance to medical staff on proper use and routine maintenance of equipment. Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints, and attend vendor-led training to stay current on technology. Ensure all work complies with Air Force, OSHA, FDA, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards. Work safely with live electrical components and in varied environments (indoor/outdoor), applying proper personal protective equipment and safety procedures. Provide technical support for medical readiness across multiple buildings, requiring driving a government vehicle. Contribute to knowledge transfer through documentation of repair procedures and equipment evaluations. Qualifications Minimum Position Requirements Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or Engineering. Minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience as a biomedical equipment technician. Proficiency in interpreting schematics, troubleshooting complex systems, and using advanced test equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of: Air Force medical standards and policies. Military/civilian medical procedures and logistics. Electronics principles and medical system software/hardware integration. Compliance regulations including DoD, Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, CAP, and FDA.
Must pass a color vision test (at contractor's expense). Ability to lift items up to 51 pounds (occasionally more, per NIOSH guidance). Possession of a valid driver's license to operate government vehicles. Must have a signed company NDA on file to access sensitive or proprietary data. Highly Desired Qualifications One or more years of military medical or deployment experience. Familiarity with military administrative procedures (e.g., awards, evaluations). Experience with Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS).
