Volunteer Experience Specialist

Since 1952, Light of Life Rescue Mission has been a safe refuge for homeless and hurting people in the Pittsburgh area. We are seeking a full-time Volunteer Experience Specialist. This person will proactively recruit and effectively connect volunteers into Light of Life volunteer positions and outreach events. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Cultivates volunteer relationships and coordinates placement. Work with staff to identify and scale volunteer needs, create volunteer role descriptions, and advertise opportunities to our volunteer community. Respond to volunteer requests and orient them to the variety of work we do. Connect interested volunteers with opportunities for them to serve. Ensure they know the time, location, and requirements of their service. Provide timely and thorough answers to all questions and requests from volunteers. Manage volunteer schedules, volunteer data (including background checks and paperwork), and database using the volunteer software to track and report on volunteer work.
Builds volunteer capacity by coordinating in-depth orientations, growth opportunities, events, and programs for high-capacity volunteers. Work with staff to identify areas where committed, high-impact volunteers are needed. Create a team of high-impact volunteers who volunteer 20-40 hours a week in various departments.
Leads campaigns for community outreach events such as Days of Hope, Thanksgiving meal distribution, and Christmas celebrations. Works with internal event committees by providing them with volunteers and administrative support. Gives input to gift-in-kind processes and helps link needs to donation streams. Provides input to other aspects of Development and Fundraising.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Associate's degree in a business/finance related field preferred and 2-5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience Previous experience working for a nonprofit organization in Human Services or Ministry preferred Knowledge of donor related databases; preferably Raisers Edge Familiarity of issues pertaining to addiction, homelessness, and/or mentally ill preferred Specific training or coursework in computers or databases preferred
