CareVet's Traveling DVM program is designed for experienced veterinarians who want flexibility without sacrificing clinical quality, earning potential, or support. Think of it like travel nursing — but for DVMs, built around how you actually want to live.

The Schedule

Choose the structure that fits your life:

  • 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off — averaging 20 hours per week
  • 3 weeks on / 1 week off — for those who prefer longer rotations

Both options are available — we’ll build the schedule around you.

Compensation & Coverage

  • $135/hr | Part‑time, no benefits
  • $100/hr | With full benefits package
  • $2,500 annual CE stipend + paid CE time
  • Professional dues and state license fees covered by CareVet
  • Travel, hotel, and meals covered — we handle the logistics

Where You’ll Practice

Our traveling DVMs rotate across high‑performing, community‑rooted hospitals throughout Ohio — from vibrant cities to welcoming small towns.

You’ll experience a variety of practice styles, client bases, and caseloads, all while being supported by a consistent and connected CareVet network.

New locations are added regularly as our footprint continues to grow.

Responsibilities

  • Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems
  • Treat and dress wounds
  • Perform surgery on animals
  • Test for and vaccinate against diseases
  • Operate medical equipment, such as x‑ray machines
  • Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments
  • Prescribe medication
  • Work closely in collaboration with team members to provide high quality care

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required
  • Licensure in the state in which candidate will be working
  • Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners
  • Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks
  • Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal
  • Strong fondness and understanding of animals
  • Good communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of animal behavior
  • Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research and surgery of animals
