BEHAVIORAL HEALTH REGISTERED NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION:
· Patient assessment:
Conducting comprehensive mental health evaluations, including taking medical histories, performing psychological assessments, and identifying potential risks for self-harm or violence.
· Medication management:
Administering prescribed psychiatric medications, monitoring for side effects, and educating patients on proper medication usage.
· Individual therapy:
Providing individual counseling sessions to patients, utilizing therapeutic techniques to address mental health issues and promote coping mechanisms.
· Crisis intervention:
Responding to immediate mental health crises, de-escalating situations, and providing necessary support during emergencies.
· Care planning:
Developing individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, including goals, interventions, and discharge planning.
· Collaboration:
Working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals like psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and primary care providers to coordinate patient care.
· Patient education:
Providing education to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
· Documentation:
Maintaining detailed and accurate patient records, including clinical assessments, treatment plans, medication administration, and progress notes.
Required qualifications for a Behavioral Health RN:
- Registered Nurse license: A valid RN license from the state of practice.
- Psychiatric nursing certification: May be required depending on the position and state regulations.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program with additional training in psychiatric nursing.
- Clinical experience: Prior experience working with individuals experiencing mental health conditions is often preferred.
