Unit Overview: Join a fast-paced and busy Cardiovascular Operating Room team performing 4-6 heart surgeries per day, including CABG and valve surgeries (no thoracic procedures). This unit has 4 operating suites and requires confident, experienced CVOR RNs who must scrub during cases. Common Procedures: Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) Valve replacements and repairs All heart surgeries (excluding thoracic)
Charge Nurse: Over all OR coverage Support Staff: Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) as nurse aides Charting System: Cerner EMR Responsibilities: Provide direct perioperative nursing care in the CVOR, including scrubbing during surgeries Assist surgical team during complex cardiac cases Read and interpret EKG strips intraoperatively (telemetry available) Participate in required call coverage (overnight call once per week and 3 weekend days per month) Maintain strong situational awareness in a fast-paced environment Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, anesthesia, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy Complete unit-specific orientation (1-2 days in OR with preceptor) Required Qualifications: Current RN license required at time of submission Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience required BLS certification (American Heart Association) Ability and willingness to scrub on all cases Comfortable with telemetry and EKG interpretation Ability to cover required call schedule: overnight call once weekly and 3 weekend shifts per month (not necessarily every other weekend) First-time travel nurses considered Strong CVOR clinical skills with confidence in a high-acuity, fast-paced OR environment Two supervisor references required at submittal (1 within 12 months, 1 within 3 years) Schedule Details: 8-hour day shifts, call associated if cases run long Schedules posted two pay periods in advance Weekend call approximately 1 weekend per month, plus 3 weekend shifts monthly as needed Holiday call rotation with core staff Additional Notes: Surgeon available 24/7—call overnight and weekends Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support 24/7 Cancellation policy: Up to 4 shifts can be canceled during a 13-week assignment Up to 3 shifts can be canceled for assignments less than 13 weeks
