About this job:
Itinerant Special Education (SPED) Float Teachers work with students with disabilities. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects to students with mild to moderate disabilities. They also teach basic skills to students with severe disabilities. This position requires an ability and willingness to work flexible hours between 7:00am and 5:00pm and as a float teacher this position requires frequent travel throughout the district.

What You'll Do: Provide education services to students in alternative locations (including home or community-based settings) Services to be provided only on student contact days (no weekends, no holidays, no planning days) Serve as a liaison between the student, their family, school of record and central office Design lesson plans that are in alignment with district standards Address core curriculum while collaborating with the teachers of record at student's home school. (Elective classes are not addressed through Alternative Placement Services (APS) Track student attendance. Maintain accurate records of the work covered with the student as well as the time spent on each subject Assign an appropriate amount of homework so that the student will log enough hours to earn credit for the class at the end of each grading period. Return all completed homework to the teacher(s) of record at student's home school. Grade all completed work, assign a grade at the end of each grading period Address behavioral concerns at the APS session and report issues that violate the District's Code of Conduct Follow all district policies and procedures including the district's Child Abuse and Neglect Protocol Communicate regularly with the Alternative Placement Services (APS) Coordinator. May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement (this is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws). What You'll Need: Bachelor's degree in Special Education is required; Master's degree is preferred Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. Experience working with young special needs students and their parents preferred. Experience working with young special needs children who represent the diversity of the District school community is preferred. Ability to be adaptable and flexible within various job duties and assignments Ability and willingness to work flexible hours between 7:00am and 7:00pm is required Position requires frequent travel throughout the district Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
