Description: The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement the care of patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Registered Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered. Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to the patients. Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient plan of care Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Registered Nurse Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient's medical record. Using a variety of computer systems Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient. Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
