Erikson Institute, a graduate school in child development located in downtown Chicago, is seeking to hire a part-time Strategic Communications Intern. Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, this position provides routine support to the Strategic Communications team. The team supports all communications to internal and external audiences as it relates to telling the story of Erikson’s impact on communities and society as a whole, earned media placements, and internal communications.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Provides administrative support for the team’s projects and programs.

Duties will include:

• Internal Communications 35%

Assist Communications Manager develop, write, and edit content as needed for internal communications platforms such as newsletters and intranet. Includes assisting with layout of internal newsletters and emails managed by the team.

• Visual Content 30%

Assist in developing visual elements for storytelling, which includes taking photos as well as recording and editing audio and video stories. Will also work with design templates provided by Marketing team. Assists team with submitting and managing design ticket requests for larger asset requests that require Marketing’s branding.

• Writing 15%

Assist with writing posts and developing content for Erikson’s social media platforms. Researching content that engages Erikson’s social media audiences. Submit posting tickets to Marketing team.

• Media/Public Relations 15%

Assist Director of External Affairs with researching and maintaining press contact lists, tracking media hits, and brainstorming ideas for media pitches.

• Other Duties As Assigned 5%

Qualifications:

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in photo, video and audio editing, and Canva software
• Understands the hierarchy of content and visuals to align messaging
• Highly organized with excellent writing skills
• Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
• Ability to meet assigned deadlines
• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Flexibility and ability to solve problems creatively
• Familiarity with MailChimp or similar email marketing software a plus
