Staff Accountant
Would you like to join a rapidly growing, locally owned company committed to quality patient care? James River Home Health is actively seeking a compassionate and highly committed Staff Accountant to join our Richmond office!
The Staff Accountant is a detail-oriented and proactive professional responsible for managing core accounting operations. This role focuses on accounts payable, vendor payments, credit card oversight, and financial reconciliation-ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across the organization's financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
Invoice & Payment Processing
* Process vendor invoices and statements within the accounting system. * Verify approvals, account coding, and adherence to company policy. * Execute timely check runs, EFTs, and employee reimbursements. * Prioritize and process urgent manual checks (e.g., payroll).
Inbox & Documentation Management
* Manage the email inbox; track status of items (pending, completed). * Organize and save invoices and financial documents in the shared Financial Operations drive.
Taxes and Business Licenses
* Register state payroll tax accounts in coordination with HR. * Apply for and renew business licenses and zoning permits for new locations.
Vendor Management
* Maintain accurate vendor records (e.g., W-9s, address updates). * Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Credit Card Oversight
* Manage activation, deactivation, budget codes, and limits for corporate credit cards. * Review and process monthly credit card statements.
Reporting & Reconciliation
* Prepare monthly reconciliations, variance reports, and metrics. * Post journal entries and assist with month-end/year-end close. * Support 1099 filing and internal/external audits.
Process Improvement & System Support
* Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). * Recommend and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. * Troubleshoot and escalate accounting system issues as needed. * Stay current with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Job Conditions
This is a desk-based position requiring regular use of a computer, calculator, and phone. Minimal physical activity (e.g., file handling) may be required. The role involves deadline-driven tasks and requires clear communication skills in English.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. * Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices. * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. * Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
