Position Summary:
The Splicer is a critical role in the rubber hose manufacturing process, responsible for preparing, joining, and finishing rubber materials and reinforcements (such as fabric or wire) during hose construction. Working closely with Hose Builders and other production team members, the Splicer ensures that rubber layers are properly bonded and reinforced to meet precise specifications for custom hose applications in agriculture, aerospace, and oil industries.
Schedule:
Will start: Monday through Thursday 5:00AM – 3:30PM
After 2 months, this role will move to a swing shift schedule: Mon through Friday 2:30PM – 11:00PM
Compensation:
$18.00 an hour
Key Responsibilities:
Rubber Splicing & Bonding:
Accurately splice rubber sheets, plies, or extruded materials to form continuous layers on hose mandrels or build-ups, ensuring strong, seamless adhesion.
Material Preparation:
Cut, align, and prepare rubber compounds and reinforcing materials (e.g., fabric, cord, wire) based on work orders, patterns, or blueprints.
Reinforcement Integration:
Apply reinforcing layers between rubber plies as required for pressure-rated or high-performance hose construction.
Seam Finishing:
Smooth and feather edges of spliced areas using hand tools or rollers to ensure proper bonding during vulcanization.
Quality Assurance:
Visually inspect splices for air pockets, misalignments, or contamination and correct any issues prior to sending hose to curing.
Tool & Equipment Use:
Utilize hand tools (knives, rollers, splicing irons) and semi-automated equipment as needed. Maintain cleanliness and care of tools.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with Hose Builders and Curing Operators to ensure hose assemblies are prepared accurately and on schedule.
Safety & Housekeeping:
Adhere to all plant safety rules and use proper PPE. Maintain a clean and organized work area to avoid contamination and hazards.

Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Additional technical training is a plus.
Experience:
Prior experience in rubber or composite material handling, especially in a manufacturing or production environment (Not Required).
Experience with rubber splicing or layup work (automotive, aerospace, industrial) preferred but not required.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Ability to use cutting tools and read tape measures or rulers with accuracy.
Basic understanding of rubber compound behaviors and splicing techniques.
Attention to detail and quality-oriented mindset.
Ability to stand, bend, and use hands for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
Production floor environment with exposure to rubber materials, adhesives, heat, and rotating equipment.
May involve prolonged standing and repetitive motion.
Use of personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles, apron, etc.) is required.
