Job Description
Based on our internal equity review process, the starting salary for this position will be $21.58.
The current full hourly range for this position is $21.58 - $31.80.
We are seeking a dependable and youth-friendly Shuttle Driver to help transport students between schools and enrichment sites during afternoon programming hours. This position will drive a 15 passenger van or 15 passenger mini-bus. You'll connect with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds and neighborhoods. Driving different routes and being part of various enrichment activities keeps the job dynamic and engaging. You'll also gain insight into Tacoma's vibrant school and community programs.

Position Information
In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:

Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
Essential Duties Performs visual inspection and operational safety check of assigned vehicle; keeps alert for mechanical or other equipment problems requiring attention; reports repair needs; reports traffic hazards, accidents, and other conditions requiring attention.
Completes daily report forms which record mileage, mechanical defects and necessary supplies.
Safely operate a shuttle vehicle to transport participants between program sites.
Maintain a timely and consistent route schedule in coordination with program needs.
May be assigned to report at a different time and location and to perform different duties as necessary.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications At least 21 years of age.
Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record required.
One year of experience in driving larger vehicles required.
Three years driving experience required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must have considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of similar automotive equipment.
Must have considerable knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation.
Experience working with youth or in school settings preferred.
Additional Information
HOURS/SCHEDULE: Up to 17.5 hours per week.
Hours vary depending on program transporting student for, typically between 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm.
Shift very from Monday - Thursday; Monday and Wednesday; Tuesday and Thursday.
The position follows the Tacoma Public Schools academic calendar, offering consistent part-time hours during the school year.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of assigned recreation programs, activities, and services.
Demonstrate knowledge of safety guidelines and practices.
Ability to handle conflict and solve problems using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability to navigate emergency situations.
Work with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, the community and program participants.
Follow instructions, both written and verbal.
Ability to safely perform job tasks in a variety of park and non-park settings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is a field-based and on-site position.
Driving a district vehicle and transporting patrons between schools and community centers.
Requires sitting and driving vehicles for extended periods of time.
Sight to read and prepare record and reports.
Ability to frequent communication with district employees and customers.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information and provide assistance.
Noise level is moderately loud.
Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on occasion.
Ability to navigate emergency situations, including performing CPR.
