About the Role: We are a dedicated group of engineers focused on solving complex distributed systems and infrastructure challenges. Our mission is to develop Kora from scratch, delivering a managed service that adheres to the highest standards of availability and performance while reducing ownership costs. What You Will Do: Storage Engine Development: Design and implement a storage engine for Kora that is highly available, performant, durable, scalable, and multi-tenant.

Engineering Leadership: Set an example through leadership, guiding technical solutions from idea to implementation while collaborating with the team and stakeholders for outstanding results.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product management, design, and other engineering teams to ensure cohesive storage features and infrastructure. Serve as a trusted advisor to internal and cross-functional teams, guiding through complex technical challenges and contributing to strategic decisions.

Mentoring: Assist junior engineers by providing mentorship and influencing the team's trajectory.

What You Will Bring: 12+ years of experience in backend and/or infrastructure development.

A degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Expertise in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or similar statically typed languages.

Experience in designing and building large-scale, distributed storage systems.

Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts like fault tolerance, consistency, and scalability.

Comprehensive systems-level knowledge (disk, network, operating systems, etc.).

Proven leadership skills with experience in mentoring engineers.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to influence and guide stakeholders.

What Gives You an Edge: A strong background in distributed storage systems or databases.

Experience in developing and operating cloud-based infrastructure in multi-tenant environments.

Experience with SaaS services on public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).

Familiarity with open-source technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache Iceberg, or Apache Flink.

A passion for knowledge-sharing, including speaking at tech conferences or writing technical articles.
