We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Property Accountant to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering exceptional value to our clients and stakeholders.
Job Overview: The Senior Property Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the financial management and accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial properties. This role requires a detail-oriented and analytical professional with a strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, financial reporting, and property management operations. The ideal candidate will work closely with property managers, asset managers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting and support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for a portfolio of commercial properties, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Perform monthly close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations of general ledger accounts related to property operations. Manage the accounting for property-level transactions, including tenant billings, rent collections, lease commissions, property taxes, and capital expenditures. Review and ensure the accuracy of property financial data, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries. Collaborate with property managers to prepare and review annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis for each property. Monitor and analyze key financial metrics and performance indicators to support management in strategic decision-making. Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulations, including GAAP. Assist with the preparation and submission of lender and investor reporting packages. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data. Support the implementation of new accounting policies, procedures, and systems to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Participate in special projects and ad hoc analyses as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation or progress towards CPA preferred. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in commercial real estate or property management. Strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, financial reporting, and property management operations. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
