Position Overview: The Resident Assistant serves to ensure a safe, secure, healthy, clean, and positive environment for families as they make their transition from homelessness through after care. This position assists families in service plan implementation by obtaining and providing feedback regarding their progress toward service plan goals. Maintains respect, support, care, and a family atmosphere for residents of the facility and fellow staff members Candidates with relatable life experience are encouraged to apply! Requirements: Must have weekend availability ! Ability to work: Tuesdays through Fridays: 4pm to 12am and Saturdays, alternating: 4pm to 12am & 8am to 4pm High School diploma / GED Equivalent, required. Formal Crisis Intervention Training (TCI) experience. Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within 90 days from date of hire, required. A Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed at least one year) and a reliable vehicle for transporting clients to community resources, meetings, etc. - is required . Staff in driving positions must be able to meet agency’s minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers; including, but not limited to the minimum age of 21 at time of hire.

Ability to work with clients with mental health issues, substance abuse and developmental disabilities. Knowledge of community resources is beneficial. Previous experience working in a human services agency is a plus! Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite; Google Business Workspace Suite; and use secure Internet practices. Prior experience with the NYS “Connections” computer software is a plus! Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; Capable of building strong working relationships with regulatory bodies. Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail; Excellent writing aptitude. A compassionate, warm and caring mindset; Capable of exhibiting empathy for those in crisis. A professional record of integrity, proven reliability and dependability; Qualities of positivity, flexibility and adaptability. Capable of exercising ethical, independent judgment and discretion while handling sensitive data with strict confidentiality. Essential Duties & Responsibilities include : Establish and maintain professional working relationships with residents as well as other Shelter staff, keeping appropriate personal boundaries in accordance with all agency policies, procedures and practices. Meet with families on a daily basis to assist them with service plan goals and offer education and instruction regarding daily living skills; act responsibly in providing information and empower residents to identify choices in their daily lives. Ensure a safe, secure, healthy, and clean environment by making rounds of the property, both interior and exterior, and reporting situations which need attention, and providing follow up as needed. Document interactions with families, using critical incident reports, intake information forms, progress note section of case files, log, etc. Assist with orderly transition of families from intake through discharge. Respect the rights of others and protect all confidential information. Intervene in crisis situations and assist with conflict resolution as needed by providing mediation and facilitating communication. Participate in professional development programming on a regular basis at request of supervisor. Drive clients in agency vehicles to various destinations throughout the Capital Region based on families’ needs. Clearly communicate concerns and suggestions to supervisor. Obtain & Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification. Additional position-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
