Public Records Specialist

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking a candidate for a Public Records Specialist position in the Constitutional Offices section. The Public Records Specialist responds to public records requests made to the Ohio Attorney General and conducts other public records as required. This position will work a hybrid in-person/remote schedule. The headquarter location is 30 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH. The successful candidate will perform the following duties, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage public records requests to the Office of the Ohio Attorney General
  • Document and track public records requests and dates relevant to those requests
  • Correspond with parties requesting public records and collaborate with agency personnel to ascertain the volume and nature of responsive records
  • Provide guidance regarding and identify confidential, exempt, and sensitive information in responsive records
  • Perform and/or coordinate redaction of confidential, exempt, and sensitive information
  • Utilize agency software to identify, organize, and redact public records
  • Provide guidance to internal employees regarding the management of and response to public records requests
  • Review policies, procedures, and manuals to ensure compliance with public records laws; remain current on laws, rules, and policies potentially impacting public records; assist in the updating of the Ohio Sunshine Laws Manual
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and delivery of public records training; perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Open Government and/or Section Chief of Constitutional Offices

May require travel; may work varied hours.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years of relevant, comparable experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Ohio public records laws and requirements
