Description Summary:
Under the direction of the System Director, Laboratory Services this position will support enterprise laboratory/pathology (including LATAM) services in order achieve established strategic, quality and financial goals. The Program Director Laboratory Operations will assist in assessing the current and future clinical needs of CHRISTUS Health labs and help lead improvements in laboratory testing, laboratory services, pathology services and operational processes critical to performance. This position will help facilitate and lead team efforts to establish and monitor customer relations, supports strategic planning and deployment initiatives, and helps develop measurement systems to determine organizational improvement.
Responsibilities:
Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Serve as an on-site Interim-Leader across CHRISTUS Health, as needed. Assists in monitoring operational targets for areas of responsibility and assists in developing corrective action plans for variances in the department productivity reports. Acts as a liaison to other CHRISTUS Health departments. Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians and other service lines to gather and exchange information, develop and implement solutions to problems. Helps facilitate innovation and standardization in laboratory instrumentation and equipment, enabling policies and practices to improve safety, efficiency, and outcomes. This results in high reliability and quality, along with a lower cost structure. Assists in developing, maintaining, and updating the CH Laboratory Operational and Capital Investment Plan. Works closely with Supply Chain contracting and other entities to ensure the most financially sound, legally robust, and comprehensive contracts. Works in direct partnership with laboratory business leaders, supply chain personnel, and corporate and hospital financial officers under the supervision of the System Director, Laboratory Services, toward implementing methods that improve laboratory operations while driving greater financial efficiency of clinical laboratory operations, including hospital-based labs, outpatient labs, central labs, and outreach business. Works closely with Laboratory Informatics and Information Management (IM) on all major information systems projects. Works with and supports laboratory informatics in the development of IM-related projects at a high level, as well as in the creation of detailed project plans for initiatives. Coordinates workbook development and supports monitoring of progress for all major programs. Assists System Director, Laboratory Services, in driving appropriate utilization of laboratory testing and/or services. Assists system leadership in new business development activities that increase revenue while enhancing quality and safety for patients we serve. Lead and/or participate in total quality management efforts, including but not limited to: blood and lab ordering, utilization management, and designing programs to reduce laboratory errors. Assists in evaluating opportunities to eliminate, in-source/out-source laboratory testing using data-driven processes to promote clinical and financial improvement. Assists in evaluating laboratory data and helps develop and implement metrics related to lab operational, clinical, and financial performance to promote quality, safety, and efficiency. Working knowledge of all areas of laboratory medicine, including clinical, anatomical, molecular pathology, and blood bank services. Knowledge related to healthcare budgeting, supply chain procurement, clinical contracting, and capital purchasing processes pertaining to lab services. Effective communicator with ability to deliver clear and concise messaging to a variety of stakeholders including, but not limited to: Executive C-Suite, VP (multiple departments), laboratory personnel and physicians. Ability to work in a high stress environment while maintaining timelines and assigned deadlines. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Exceptional communication skills/professional presence with the ability to lead and drive change. Demonstrated skills impacting the improvement of organizational productivity and development. Experience in effectively interpreting/translating strategic initiatives into daily operational objectives for staff.
Experience
5 years in laboratory management is required. Experience with multi-site laboratory management is required. Experience working with outreach operations is preferred. Experience in a corporate office setting is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Board-certified Medical Technologist or MLT, ASCP, AMT, or equivalent is required.
