The Lactation Registered Nurse plays a vital role in our Breastfeeding Program, focusing on promoting and supporting the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding through education and assistance to patients. In addition to individual patient support, you will collaborate with the maternal nursing staff to ensure consistent and accurate breastfeeding information is provided to new mothers. Your responsibilities will include: Providing breastfeeding education to new mothers and families, following the latest AAP guidelines. Assisting in managing patients with complex breastfeeding challenges. Offering lactation discharge instructions and resources for ongoing support. Educating within the Childbirth Education Program and continued consultation for post-discharge patients. Developing policies and procedures related to breastfeeding. Qualifications: Experience: Preferred 2 years of experience in Maternal and Child Health or lactation consulting. Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required; college degree is preferred. Licenses and Certifications: IBCLC certification is required at time of hire or within 2 years of hire. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. RNC - OB certification is preferred. Completion of Texas Department of Health's Phase I and II Intensive Lactation Education Programs is preferred. Training as a Breastfeeding Educator (TBE) is preferred.
