Description:
To lead the clinical research and implementation of AI-driven mental health interventions at Dartmouth College, bridging behavioral science with cutting-edge technology. This position will advance the field of digital therapeutics by ensuring that AI-enabled interventions are grounded in psychological theory and evidence-based practices while measuring their effectiveness in improving student mental health outcomes. The role offers an opportunity to shape the future of technology-enabled mental health care through innovative research that combines clinical expertise with artificial intelligence applications. This is a full-time, funded position for up to 5 years that depends upon the continued availability of funds.
Key Accountabilities
Clinical Research and Oversight (40%)
Design and implement clinical protocols for AI-driven interventions
Develop assessment frameworks for measuring mental health outcomes
Ensure interventions align with evidence-based therapeutic practices
Lead research on intervention effectiveness and clinical outcomes
Create safety protocols and risk management procedures
Conduct systematic reviews of relevant clinical literature
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
Present at academic conferences and clinical meetings
Contribute to grant proposals and reserach funding applications
Develop clinical guidelines for AI-enabled therapeutic interactions
Assessment and Evaluation (30%)
Design comprehensive assessment batteries for mental health outcomes
Develop and validate measurement tools for digital interventions
Create protocols for monitoring clinical effectiveness
Analyze intervention outcomes and identify improvement areas
Lead mixed-methods evaluation of therapeutic components
Implement quality assurance processes for clinical content
Monitor and evaluate therapeutic alliance in AI interactions
Design protocols for detecting and managing clinical risk
Coordinate with technical teams on clinical integration
Prepare clinical outcome reports and publications
Clinical-Technical Integration (20%)
Collaborate with LLM developers on therapeutic content generation
Work with technical teams to implement clinical safety features
Ensure clinical appropriateness of AI-generated responses
Develop guidelines for handling crisis situations
Create specifications for clinical decision support systems
Review and refine AI-generated therapeutic models
Participate in technical development meetings
Guide implementation of clinical best practices
Support integration of passive sensing data with clinical assessments
Research Leadership and Collaboration (10%)
Mentor graduate students and research assistants
Coordinate with interdisciplinary team members
Participate in research team meetings
Contribute to research protocal development
Support grant writing efforts
Assist in supervising clinical research activities
Foster collaborations with clinical partners
Engage with the broader mental health community
Support clinical validation studies
Contribute to publications and presentations
Qualifications: Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field
Strong background in mental health intervention reserach
Experience with digital mental health applications
Knowledge of clinical assessment methods
Publication record in relevant fields
Excellent clinical research skills
Strong project management abilities
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Experience with human subjects research
Demonstrated ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications:
Clinical license or license-eligible
Experience with AI-enabled health interventions
Background in college mental health
Knowledge of crisis management protocols
Experience with digital therapeutics
Grant writing experience
Familiarity with passive sensing applications
Experience mentoring students
Knowledge of HIPPA compliance
Publication record in top-tier venues
