About the Work : Habeas Corpus Trial Practice This position offers attorneys the immediate opportunity to serve as lead trial counsel for a full caseload of post-conviction cases for indigent inmates. Habeas corpus cases are civil proceedings, but involve criminal law and procedure. The practice provides an excellent opportunity to build trial experience quickly — laying a foundation for handling various types of litigation or advanced legal work. We provide extensive training and mentorship to help our attorneys develop essential skills for providing exceptional client representation. Lead Counsel Training and Mentorship Attorneys are trained and mentored by Supervising Attorney Jade Saginor, who has handled numerous trials and contested hearings as lead counsel over nine years. She utilizes the firm’s case management and trial preparation systems, developed over 26 years by Managing Attorney Damon Kirschbaum and others. Through hands-on experience, direct training, and structured mentorship, attorneys will develop advocacy skills, case strategy expertise, and client communication techniques vital for litigation practice. Remote Position This is, and always will be, a fully remote position. The firm has supported remote attorneys for over seven years. Attorneys are never required to work in an office but may use our conference room in Manchester as needed. Location Requirement While the position is remote, applicants must reside in or near Connecticut. You must be available to visit incarcerated clients regularly and appear in Connecticut courts as needed.
