Part Time Custodian The City of Rohnert Park is seeking to fill one (1) Part Time Custodian position. This position is a part-time, CalPERS retirement benefited position that may work up to 1456 hours in a fiscal year, from July 1st through June 30th. This position performs tasks to maintain City facilities such as cleaning, vacuuming, picking up trash, dusting, cleaning restrooms, re-stocking paper supplies, performing minor repairs to facilities, securing park restrooms, reporting damage, and related duties as assigned.

Important note: CalPERS retirees may not work for the City of Rohnert Park more than 960 hours per fiscal year, nor in a permanent position. Work assignments must be temporary, i.e. typically limited to 12 months.
Definition: Provides custodial services to maintain various City facilities, often outside of regular business hours; performs other related duties as assigned.
Distinguishing characteristics: The Part-Time Custodian is responsible for working independently performing tasks to maintain City facilities such as cleaning, vacuuming, picking up trash, dusting, cleaning restrooms, performing minor repairs to facilities and related duties as assigned. General supervision is provided by a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Ideal candidate duties include:
Removes litter in and around City facilities
Cleans, sanitizes and maintains restroom facilities and fixtures, including unclogging toilets as needed
Changes light bulbs, unplugs drains, and performs other minor building repairs and maintenance
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors
Vacuums, shampoos and steam cleans rugs and carpets
Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, cabinets, fixtures and equipment
Empties and cleans waste receptacles
Washes walls and windows
Cleans and maintains commercial kitchens and eating areas
Removes weeds and debris from exterior of buildings
Cleans and maintain facilities including floors, walkways, ceilings, windows, lights, office furniture and fixtures
Operates hand tools as needed to perform minor repairs.
Replenishes restroom supplies and monitors inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment
Maintains an accurate schedule and record of work performed
May perform the above duties in cooperation with assigned staff, supervisor and/or various community groups
May be assigned as a disaster service worker in the event of a disaster or emergency

Qualifications and requirements include:
One-year of previous janitorial-related work experience
Experience performing custodial work independently is desirable
Possession of a valid CA Class C Driver's License and a good driving record
Valid CPR Certificate must be obtained within 90 days of appointment date
Work nights, weekends and holidays as required
Sufficient dexterity to lift boxes and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance of public buildings and facilities
Safe work practices and procedures
Skill to use a variety of hand tools
Safely use a variety of cleaning agents and chemicals
Climb and descend ladders
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
Understand and carry out oral and written directions
Become familiar with and enforce safety rules, procedures and regulations regarding the use of public facilities
Perform manual work requiring physical strength, agility and endurance
Deal courteously with the public under a wide variety of circumstances
Maintain records of work performed
Learn and utilize new technology
Additional information:
Position requires sitting, prolonged standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily work activities. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision. Hearing is required when providing face-to-face customer service. The ability to lift, carry and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds is required. May be exposed to dust and fumes from cleaning products.
