Summary
The role of OSP Engineer will be responsible for the design of Mainstream’s growing fiber network. Design responsibilities will include backbone feeder design, lateral design to optimize customer additions, FTTH design, and enterprise business service design. The OSP Engineer will serve as the project owner from inception to completion.
Role and Responsibilities
Develop and maintain overall OSP system design for new market areas and existing OSP network
Conduct pre-design site visits
Attend county/town and/or other agency meetings as required
Prepare and maintains detailed assignment documents of fiber projects and communicate these with fiber engineers.
Perform aerial plant engineering, including coordinating make-ready and pole loading analysis with vendors
Perform underground fiber OSP design
Use CAD design software to produce fiber designs and bill of materials.
Prepare permits related to ROW, Railroad, and DOTs.
Perform QC of construction prints and splicing sheets submitted by outside contractors and other sources.
Provide input on best practices, permit processes, field construction methods, and telecom products.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the effective operation of the department.
Ensure legal requirements are being met during network servicing area planning
Complete other tasks/duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
High School Diploma, or equivalent education, required
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics preferred.
3-5 years outside plant design experience with 1-2 years FTTH experience.
Experience and understanding of outside plant engineering and construction techniques.
Experience working with Outside Plant Engineering in the following systems: AutoCAD, and or client-specific GIS software preferred.
Advanced experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Proven Safety record and documented training and knowledge of OSHA requirements
Preferred Skills
OSHA,CPR, or CDL certification/licenses, preferred
ERSI ARC GIS, ARROW, VETRO, IQ GEO or experience with like systems is a plus
Knowledge of OSP Engineering/Construction practices and standards.
Understanding of aerial construction, including span lengths, pole loading, anchoring, guying and attachment heights, as well as familiarity with joint use regulations.
Experience in Microsoft Office.
Experience in identifying public Right of Way.
Flexible, team player attitude, with the ability work on all aspects of a given project along with any other tasks beneficial to the company and its growth.
Good written and verbal communication.
Excellent time management skills, and the capability to be mostly self-directed
Strong attention to detail
Ability to Multi-task and Manage changing priorities.
Project Management a plus.

This position is a combination of office and outside work. Exposure to the elements may be required from time to time.
