- Teacher Tuition Reimbursement Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:
Reports to the Principal in all matters pertaining to the building, the Assistant Superintendent in areas of curriculum and instruction, and the Superintendent of Schools and/or designee. Statement of Duties:
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music instruction for learners in Pre-K special education, both in inclusive and sub-separate settings.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, ESPs, specialists, and related service providers to integrate music into Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Adapt music lessons to meet diverse needs, including sensory, communication, and motor development goals.
- Incorporate therapeutic supports (speech, OT, PT, BCBA) into music activities to reinforce learner progress.
- Use music as a tool to promote communication, social interaction, and engagement for learners with disabilities.
- Model and coach ESPs in using music to support skill development and classroom participation. Curriculum and Planning:
- Design music lessons aligned with Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework, Early Learning Standards, and learner IEP goals.
- Incorporate songs, instruments, movement, and rhythm activities that promote cognitive, language, and social-emotional growth.
- Differentiate instruction to meet varied developmental levels and learning styles.
- Use visuals, adaptive instruments, and assistive technology to ensure accessibility for all learners. Assessment:
- Use observation, performance tasks, and informal assessments to track learner participation and progress in music activities.
- Document growth toward IEP music-related goals and report progress to families and the team.
- Adjust music instruction based on data and learner responsiveness. Instruction:
- Engage learners through interactive, multi-sensory music activities.
- Incorporate movement, instruments, and props to increase motivation and participation.
- Use music to reinforce classroom routines, transitions, and targeted skills. Learning Environment:
- Create an inclusive and supportive space where learners feel confident exploring music.
- Maintain predictable routines and positive behavioral supports during music activities.
- Encourage peer interaction through collaborative music-making experiences. Cultural Proficiency:
- Select and adapt music that reflects and celebrates learners' diverse cultures, languages, and backgrounds.
- Collaborate with families to incorporate meaningful cultural music experiences into lessons. Family and Community Engagement:
- Share strategies with families for using music at home to support learning and engagement.
- Communicate learner progress and highlight music as a tool for skill development.
- Involve families in performances or sharing music-related work when appropriate. Professional Practice:
- Participate in professional development related to early childhood music, special education, and inclusive practices.
- Reflect on music instruction and adjust to better meet learner needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music across the Pre-K curriculum. Qualifications:
- Massachusetts DESE Licensure in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General - All Levels - Required.
- Preferred: Massachusetts DESE Licensure in Early Childhood: Students with and without Disabilities (PreK-2).
- Experience teaching music to young children with disabilities.
- Knowledge of adaptive music strategies, assistive technology, and communication supports.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
