Position Title: MSS Supervisor
Classification: Seasonal FT
FLSA Status: Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Mountain Sports School Winter Supervisor plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional guest experiences, developing instructor staff, and ensuring the smooth, profitable operation of the Jackson Hole Mountain Sports School. This is a frontline leadership role with daily responsibility for coaching instructors, managing logistics, resolving issues, and collaborating across departments to meet business and guest service goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences, developing instructor staff, and ensuring the smooth, profitable operation of the Jackson Hole Mountain Sports School
Actively maintain service standards across meeting and lesson areas
Model exceptional guest service and lead by example
Coach instructors on delivering exceptional guest service to students and parents
Manage performance of instructors to ensure all job goals and expectations are successfully achieved, including recognition of high performers and conducting coaching conversations to support employees in performance improvement as needed
Oversee daily operational functions including guest check-in, class splits, lesson assignments, lunch transitions, and end-of-day check-out
Manage weekly and daily staff scheduling based on forecasted business needs and real-time conditions
Coordinate staffing across all product zones to maximize efficiency and product delivery
Provide timely, constructive feedback and documentation regarding job performance, max teach level, guest service, work assignments, and safety
Collaborate with the MSS Training Team to align instructor training programs with technical, teaching, and people skills needed to achieve business objectives
Deliver and oversee staff training related to operational logistics, safety, and guest service expectations
Conduct regular on-snow clinics throughout the season
Provide hiring manager with seasonal hiring projections and assist with onboarding and assessment of new instructors
Manage staffing and logistics for seasonal programs, passholder programs, camps, and corporate groups
Administer and troubleshoot MSS payroll to ensure accurate and timely compensation
Manage daily callouts and respond to scheduling requests to ensure appropriate staffing levels
Interface with guests to resolve concerns or issues professionally and efficiently
Clearly communicate with staff to relay policies, set expectations, and deliver operational updates
Support staff development by identifying high performers for growth opportunities and underperformers for targeted coaching
Monitor and update individual instructor profiles
Document and support employee injury incidents in coordination with Worker's Compensation policies and HR
OTHER FUNCTIONS Work across multiple product zones to ensure operational consistency and guest experience alignment
Have a presence on-hill to support instructors, trainers, coworkers, and guests
Contribute to the development and implementation of MSS programs, processes, and products that enhance the guest and employee experience
Participate in pre-season and post-season training and planning workshops
Teach private or class lessons as needed to support business goals
Assist with the design, signage, and organization of meeting areas

JOB SPECIFICATIONS & QUALIFICATIONS
COMPETENCIES

Working knowledge of PSIA/AASI American Teaching System
Minimum intermediate skiing or snowboarding ability

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and operational software (e.g., scheduling, payroll systems)

SUPERVISORY DUTIES Number of Direct Reports: 25-40
Total Reports (including part-time/seasonal staff): Up to 70
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates primarily in both an office and an outdoor ski school environment mountain setting. This role routinely uses computer and phone. Some work is completed in an indoor environment within a ski school facility. Frequent exposure to an outdoor work environment to manage instructor team and product zone. Outdoor environment may cause exposure to extreme temperatures and varying, extreme weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Comfortable walking and standing for extended periods on uneven, mountainous terrain in ski or snowboard boots as applicable to the product zone
Physical ability to ski or snowboard for several hours per day
Ability to sit for extended periods of time at a desk and working on a computer.
Extensive use of fingers to type and perform other computer work.
Hearing and ability to give and receive detailed information through oral communication at normal speaking level both in person and over the phone.
Close visual acuity such as preparing copy and reports.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This job is seasonal full time and typically works during daytime business hours for 5 days per week. Work will be required on weekends and holidays and occasionally in the evening. Schedules and hours may fluctuate depending on business need.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years teaching skiing or snowboarding in a mountain resort ski school environment
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PSIA/AASI Level 2 certification (or international equivalent)
Previous leadership or supervisory experience in resort operations or snowsports instruction
