Sunflower Bank, N.A. is looking for an energetic, highly motivated individual to fill the position of a full-time Model Risk Program Manager in our Overland Park, KS location.
Summary
The Model Risk Program Manager is a Second Line of Defense role responsible for leading the Model Risk Management (MRM) Program in accordance with Sunflower's Model Risk Policy. This position cultivates a strong working relationship with model owners and developers to proactively identify and mitigate risks. The Model Risk Program Manager oversees the First Line of Defense activities through risk assessment, effective challenge, monitoring, and reporting of the Bank's Model Risk profile, including top and emerging risks. This role will provide an opportunity to scale the Model Risk Program to a growing financial institution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the MRM Program, providing support to the lines of business in the identification, management, and measurement of model risks across the model lifecycle.
- Manage the Model Risk Management Program documents, as well as Model Risk Training and education initiatives to align with changing regulatory expectations and industry best practices for a $10 billion financial institution.
- Manage the inventory of models and non-models to ensure completeness and accuracy of model inventory and required actions are completed timely.
- Define models versus significant tools, and the requirements for each.
- Oversees, coordinates resources, and performs appropriate level of review of model performance and controls, including establishing the model validation scope, assessment of validation results and communication with stakeholders.
- Maintains an understanding of the existing and continued cost of validation per model type.
- Manage the inventory of MRM Program metrics as well as model specific metrics, reporting on Program and model performance periodically and proactively identifying deterioration in models.
- Monitor and report on model related findings through resolution(s), providing guidance to Model Owners to successfully remediate findings, as needed.
- Complete reviews of annual Periodic Reviews (ongoing monitoring) for models and non-models to assess performance and monitoring efforts.
- Present quarterly updates to Operational Risk Committee and other oversight committees, as necessary.
- Develop and execute initiatives and project plans to continuously enhance the Program in alignment with the evolving size and complexity of the Bank.
- Support internal audit and regulatory requests, as necessary.
- Ensures that all bank models undergo an appropriate level of effective challenge through oversight of third-party reviews.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
- At least 6 years of experience working in model or operational risk management, and/or experience in modeling techniques, such as the development, review, validation, and/or oversight of models used by financial institutions.
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory guidance for Model Risk Management (OCC and FRB)
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. Ability to forge and maintain relationships with model owners.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills to effectively challenge the First Line of Defense.
- Strong process management orientation to create and maintain a standardized, repeatable process and to identify enhancements and efficiencies where available.
- Management experience preferred
