A MedSurgical Care Specialist provides support to patients in an acute setting, working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or licensed nurse. This role involves assisting with routine and repetitive patient care activities, supporting clerical and organizational tasks, and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients. Key Responsibilities: Meet expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders. Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, ensuring a smooth transition process. Complete pertinent documents accurately and efficiently. Prepare rooms for admission by setting up IV poles and adjusting beds to the appropriate level, ensuring patient comfort and safety. Evaluate patient belongings and ensure they accompany the patient to the new unit or home at time of discharge. Transport stable patients safely as required, following established protocols. Maintain security and confidentiality when interacting with family and visitors, adhering to HIPAA guidelines. Clean, procure, and return equipment and supplies, maintaining a well-organized unit environment. Run errands for the unit as needed, prioritizing tasks to optimize productivity. Assist licensed personnel in providing a safe and comfortable environment, including performing unit-specific patient care tasks according to skills checklist and documenting on flowsheet. Identify obvious changes in patient condition and report promptly to nurse in charge, ensuring timely interventions. Assist with ordering and maintenance of stock items according to established inventory, optimizing resource utilization. Keep unit supplies organized and orderly, streamlining workflow efficiency. Respond appropriately to emergencies, staying calm and composed in high-pressure situations. Communicate effectively with team members during and between shifts, fostering a collaborative work environment. Respond to phone calls and patient call lights, addressing patient needs promptly. Adapt patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate unique needs, prioritizing individualized care. Demonstrate competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities, meeting quality standards. Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, demonstrating a foundation in basic education. Patient care experience in an acute care setting is preferred, showcasing relevant skills and knowledge. CNA License in state of employment required, verifying certification and licensure.
