Description: Position Summary:
Boat Repair & Finishing Technician is responsible for the precise installation, adjustment, and repair of vessel components, including doors, hatches, windows, moving roofs, and exterior/interior hardware. This role requires expert craftsmanship in caulking, sealing, hardware fitting, and troubleshooting of onboard systems to ensure safety, functionality, and high-quality finish standards for all marine service projects.
Key Responsibilities Install, adjust, and align vessel doors, windows, hatches, and sliding or moving roof systems.
Perform hardware installation and repairs, including locks, latches, hinges, tracks, rails, and marine-specific fittings.
Execute precision caulking and sealing work to ensure watertight integrity and long-term durability.
Fit, fasten, and finish interior and exterior trim, panels, and joinery to OEM or customer specifications.
Diagnose and correct alignment issues, sticking or binding mechanisms, and water intrusion problems.
Replace worn or damaged seals, gaskets, and hardware components.
Maintain cleanliness and finish quality on all surfaces worked, ensuring professional-grade appearance.
Read and interpret technical drawings, service manuals, and manufacturer installation guides.
Collaborate with service teams, riggers, and electricians to coordinate work sequences efficiently.
Maintain an organized work area and ensure tools and materials are properly stored and cared for.
Adhere to all safety procedures and yard regulations, including proper PPE usage and safe lifting practices.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Skills Required:
3+ years of experience in marine carpentry, outfitting, or yacht repair (or closely related field).
Demonstrated skill in precision fitting, caulking, and hardware installation.
Ability to work with various marine materials including fiberglass, aluminum, stainless steel, teak, and composites.
Strong problem-solving skills for alignment and fitment challenges.
Competency with hand tools, power tools, and measuring devices (calipers, squares, feeler gauges).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with minimal supervision.
Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in confined spaces, and climb ladders as needed.
Preferred:
Experience with custom yacht or high-end production boat outfitting.
Knowledge of marine adhesives, sealants, and corrosion prevention methods.
Basic fiberglass repair or finish work experience.
Work Environment Combination of indoor shop and outdoor yard work.
Exposure to weather, noise, and marine chemicals.
Occasional overtime or weekend work to meet project deadlines.
