Position Overview
The Low Voltage Designer is responsible for creating detailed design and construction documents for low voltage systems, including voice & data, access control, fire alarm, and security systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge of low voltage systems, proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit, and experience working in the construction industry. The Low Voltage Designer will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to deliver accurate, code-compliant designs that meet client specifications and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop detailed low voltage system designs and drawings for voice & data, access control, fire alarm, security, and related systems.
Create and maintain construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit.
Coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure accurate integration of low voltage systems into overall building design.
Prepare layouts, schematics, riser diagrams, and specifications in compliance with project requirements, codes, and industry standards.
Perform design reviews and make revisions as necessary to meet project scope and client expectations.
Assist with material selection, equipment specifications, and system configurations.
Collaborate with project managers to support estimating, scheduling, and submittal processes.
Ensure all designs comply with applicable NFPA, NEC, IBC, and local jurisdiction requirements.
Provide technical support during project installation, commissioning, and closeout.
Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in low voltage design.
Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology, or related field (preferred) OR equivalent design experience in the construction industry.
Minimum 3 years of experience in low voltage design for construction projects.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is required.
Strong technical knowledge of low voltage systems, including: Voice & Data (structured cabling)
Access Control
Fire Alarm Systems
Security / CCTV
Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NFPA, NEC, IBC, and local fire codes).
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
