Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Duke Primary Care Float Pool
Department Profile:
Duke Primary Care in Durham offers comprehensive family medicine and lab services in one location. For adults, services include internal and family medicine, annual physicals, preventive care, sick visits, immunizations, chronic illness management, women's health care, and diagnostic tests like lab work and X-rays. For children and adolescents, care includes well-child visits, routine checkups, physicals, immunizations, and management of conditions like asthma, allergies, and diabetes.

What you will do:
Clinical Responsibilities:
Administer medications and IV fluids as prescribed by the doctor and maintain records.
Provide direct care to patients under the supervision of a nurse or doctor.
Follow the doctor's orders and nursing care plan for patient care.
Report patient responses to care to a nurse for evaluation and adjustments to the care plan.
Assist other healthcare staff in delivering patient care.
Help doctors and nurses with diagnostic procedures.
Assess nursing care, patient responses, and prioritize nursing tasks.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Help develop and implement policies to ensure patient comfort and safety and participate in creating new policies.
Contribute to maintaining the care environment, including equipment and supplies.
Identify and assist in improving clinical and operational performance.
Assist in managing supplies and equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the charge nurse.
Participate in training programs and help train new staff.
Perform other related duties as needed.
What you will need:
Education
Work requires graduation from an approved or accredited Practical Nurse program.
Experience
No experience required.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
Current State of North Carolina LPN licensure is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience
Ability to find resources independently and work well with others
Clear communication with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, and leadership; able to teach patients and families based on the care plan
Ability to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up using sensory and cognitive functions
Competent in BLS and other required life support certifications
Proficient in fine motor skills
Accurately record activities and document interventions
Ability to use computers and learn new software
Navigate the healthcare system to provide patient care
Able to stand and walk for long periods
Stay focused and organized
Knowledge of sterile techniques and special procedures relevant to the role
Familiarity with administering routine and special treatments to patients
Understanding of sanitation, hygiene, and health safety in a hospital setting
Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Knowledge of and compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory requirements
