Evans & Dixon is currently seeking to add a Legal Assistant to our expanding & fast paced St. Louis office. As a Legal Assistant, you will assist attorneys and legal staff with preparing, filing, and managing collection-related legal documents and processes. You will follow up on court filings to ensure that deadline-driven tasks are accomplished in a timely manner, maintain the docket and attorney schedule, and prepare court filings and pleadings. Successful candidates will have experience in collections or legal support, strong organizational skills, and a proactive approach to task management. What you'll do: As a Legal Assistant, you will participate in the full lifecycle of the debt recovery process, supporting attorneys by preparing and filing legal documents, communicating with clients and opposing counsel, tracking case milestones, and ensuring compliance with court procedures. Court Filings and Pleadings: Prepare, review, and file legal documents such as court pleadings, motions, and other filings in compliance with court rules and deadlines. Deadline Management: Monitor and follow up on court filings to ensure adherence to all relevant deadlines and procedural requirements. Basic Accounting and Invoicing: Perform basic accounting tasks including invoicing related to court filings, tracking client remittances, and maintaining accurate billing records. Docketing and Calendar Management: Maintain docket systems to track case deadlines and events; manage attorney calendars to ensure timely appearances and submissions. Client and External Communication: Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and defendants to exchange information, schedule meetings, and coordinate case activities. Schedule and Case Management Support: Maintain organized records of case dockets and assist in managing attorneys' schedules to support efficient workflow and case progress. What we're looking for: One to three plus years of prior legal experience Basic understanding of accounting and invoicing procedures Must be comfortable utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Have the ability to edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents Knowledge of court procedures Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-oriented environment Must be well organized, detail-orientated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing work priorities Ability to type accurately and efficiently from draft or dictation Ability to work professionally and effectively with both internal and external clients on all levels Education and Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required One to three plus years of prior legal experience Basic knowledge of accounting processes and procedures About Us: Evans & Dixon provides Midwest business clients with sophisticated legal advice, responsive communications, and hands-on industry knowledge.
