Job Summary
Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Day-to-day lead and acts as the point person in the absence of a supervisor. Collect laboratory specimens, as needed. Process lab specimens and perform clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Demonstrate skill in use of equipment relevant to position. Demonstrate critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem solving. Demonstrate personal commitment to the principles, values, and ethics of the organization to promote a positive work environment. Seek personal learning opportunities. Recognize safety hazards and comply with all safety practices and protocols. Assists in the training and competency assessment of staff. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise. Participate in validations, proficiency testing and evaluation and quality assurance initiatives. Provide feedback for performance appraisals. Perform other related duties as assigned. May be required to travel to other locations.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required.
Two years of laboratory related experience preferred.
Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
