As a Lab Technician I, this position will be supporting the laboratory of Dr. Kuo-Fen Lee where they will focus on research support related to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Disease Mouse Models and general laboratory support.
The part-time Lab Technician I position is intended to learn and assist with routine lab support. Under general supervision, activities include: collects and prepares mouse DNA samples for analysis; prepares solutions and media under sterile conditions; performs various molecular biology techniques; and assists with general laboratory maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering/stocking of supplies.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Collects and prepares mouse DNA tissue samples for analysis. Handles and restrains mice. Learns principles of and assists with management of mice colony. Performs various techniques in molecular biology such as: DNA extraction and analysis and PCR reactions. Performs inventory of chemicals and supplies; orders laboratory supplies and stocks laboratory areas as required. Operates sterilization equipment ensuring appropriate conditions for material being processed. What we Require No professional level experience required. High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Undergraduate student enrolled in college -first two years Preferred: Prior experience in a laboratory setting, including experience gained via undergraduate laboratory coursework. Preferred: Experience in the operation and maintenance of various lab equipment. Preferred: Basic knowledge in biological sciences or related fields, which may be obtained by completion of basic biology course. Preferred: Undergraduate coursework and interest in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics or related discipline.
What We Can Offer
The expected pay range for this position is $17.25-$18.00 hourly. Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
