Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Lab Technician to oversee the daily operations of our shared laboratory facility. This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring that all lab users operate in a safe, compliant, and productive environment. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting and enjoy building systems from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily operations of shared and private lab spaces, including equipment use, maintenance, and inventory management
Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safety, equipment usage, and waste disposal
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal biosafety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA, CDC, etc.)
Serve as the primary point of contact for lab tenants and researchers; onboard new users and provide safety training
Manage relationships with equipment vendors, service providers, and supply partners
Coordinate routine maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment
Support budgeting and procurement of lab materials
Collaborate with leadership to plan lab layout, expansion, and improvements
Maintain up-to-date records of training, certifications, incident reports, and chemical inventories
Foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and innovation among a diverse community of early-stage biotech companies
Conduct weekly inspections of laboratory equipment to ensure proper function.
Run the eyewash station and safety shower to meet safety and regulatory standards.
Maintain detailed records of equipment checks and submit reports to lab management as needed.
Assist with troubleshooting minor issues with lab equipment and recommend maintenance as necessary.
Follow established safety protocols and promote a clean, organized lab environment.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in life sciences, biotechnology, biomedical engineering, or a comparable alternative
3+ years of experience in a laboratory oversight or research operations role; experience in shared lab or incubator environments preferred
Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance (biosafety, chemical hygiene, waste handling, etc.)
Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to juggle competing priorities
Hands-on experience with common lab equipment (centrifuges, biosafety cabinets, incubators, autoclaves, etc.)
Familiarity with startup culture and the unique needs of early-stage biotech companies is a plus
