Spero Hospice is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse to care for patients in Essex and Union Counties. This role involves providing direct, hands-on care, managing symptoms, and offering emotional support to patients and their families during an important stage of life.

Compensation:

$48 - $53 hourly

Responsibilities:
  • Assess patients’ conditions with an emphasis on pain and symptom management.
  • Develop individualized care plans in partnership with the interdisciplinary team and the patient’s family.
  • Update care plans regularly to reflect changing needs and ensure the highest quality of life.
  • Monitor patient responses to treatment and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Coordinate closely with physicians, nurses, and other team members to provide comfort-focused care.
  • Offer compassionate, emotional, and spiritual support to patients and families throughout the end-of-life journey.
  • Deliver care that honors each patient’s cultural and spiritual values.
  • Participate in team meetings to review care plans and address any concerns.
  • Collaborate with social workers, chaplains, aides, and other support staff to ensure holistic, comprehensive care.
  • Communicate with outside providers to maintain continuity of care and support for families.
  • Educate patients and families about the hospice process and available services.
  • Document care accurately and maintain current, detailed patient records.
  • Comply with all New Jersey hospice regulations and Spero Hospice policies.
Qualifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Jersey.
  • 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience required; hospice, palliative care, or related experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of hospice philosophy and end-of-life care principles.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to support patients, families, and the care team.
  • Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and emotional sensitivity when working with individuals and families facing serious illness and loss.
  • Able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare software systems.
