OVERVIEW : The Homeless Ministries Outreach Coordinator will actively engage in community outreach efforts to promote awareness of the Harbor Light Center, the inaugural stage of The Way Out program. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Coordinate homeless outreach efforts throughout downtown San Francisco Establish and maintain a regular outreach schedule in and around homeless encampments Work with SF Metro Corps units / officers for regular participation in the outreach schedule, ensuring adequate coverage for spiritual, emotional, and physical care on all outings Collaborate with the San Francisco Culinary Training Academy students and instructor on monthly outreach efforts providing food prepared by the students Interface with external groups who have regular interaction with people who could benefit from the Harbor Light and The Way Out Extended Recovery programs Provide reports and input at staff, advisory board, and coordination council meetings Promote Salvation Army recovery programs and services during outreach activities Record key statistics related to outreach efforts and submit monthly reports Operate and maintain the Street Homeless Outreach and Wellness (S.H.O.W.) van, keeping accurate mileage logs, maintenance records, and ensuring all license and insurance documents are up to date Purchase and maintain supplies needed for outreach efforts Visit the local food bank regularly to obtain food and snacks for outreach Identify resources and donors for socks, hygiene products, clothing, etc. Engage Harbor Light program participants in volunteer outreach activities Organize and maintain the Outreach Closet Perform other related duties as required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : High school diploma or equivalent (required) CA driver’s license (required) Associate’s Degree in a related field (preferred) Experience working with the homeless population (2 years preferred) Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills Team player with self-motivation and ability to motivate others Ability to maintain rapport with staff, corps personnel, and the public Knowledge of Salvation Army practices, policies, and organization (preferred) EQUIPMENT USED : Modern office equipment and relevant software Street Homeless Outreach and Wellness (S.H.O.W.) van PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
