Temporary Part-Time Harbor/Marina Division Position
The City is hiring for at least two (2) people in a Temporary Part-Time capacity within the Harbor/Marina Division of the Community Services Department for working at the Wharfinger Building. Paper applications may also be obtained in-person from Jennifer at the Wharfinger Building, 1 Marina Way in Eureka.
This is the temporary part-time class in the Harbor/Marina Division responsible for organizing and assisting with events held at the Wharfinger Building. Duties include communicating to Facility users about equipment and services, assisting in event set-up and breakdown, performing Facility opening and closing procedures, and other duties as assigned.
Examples of essential job functions (illustrative only):
- Greets and assists facility users and provides information about the facility, equipment and services.
- Performs various facility reception functions, observes and assists at scheduled events.
- Instructs facility users on the use of audio equipment.
- Provides instruction for the use of kitchen equipment and location of tools, dishes, supplies, etc.
- Assists in event set up, break down and clean up after events.
- Performs clean-up of public areas including restrooms as required.
- Responsible for Opening and Closing Procedures as required.
- Removes brush and weeds from City grounds; may mow and trim lawns.
- Cleans up grounds, facilities and structures within assigned areas.
- Washes walls, windows, and floors.
- Removes debris, abandoned items, and/or obstructions from City property.
- Returns materials and equipment to proper place.
- Makes pickups and deliveries.
- Performs minor repairs.
- Performs other related duties.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of basic facility services.
- Proper customer service.
Ability to:
- Interpret and explain City facility programs, policies, and procedures.
- Establish and maintain a positive, cooperative working relationship with those encountered in the course of work.
- Meet physical demands of the job.
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and diplomatically.
- Understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;
- Use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;
- Willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
- Exercise integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and 6 months paid or volunteer experience involving public contact.
License: Any Food Safety Certification or Clean Standard Certification preferred but not required.
Physical demands must possess mobility to work in a harbor/marina facility environment and use standard office and/or related equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed for kitchen inventory duties, linen services, etc. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in a harbor/marina facility environment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects necessary to perform job functions such as moving or lifting event tables, chairs, catering supplies, linen and trash.
Environmental elements employees work primarily in a harbor/marina facility environment with moderate to loud noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees in this position will be exposed to quickly shifting weather patterns at the Marina and should dress accordingly when assigned to walk around building. Contact with people experiencing homelessness may occur and employees will need to feel confident and comfortable enforcing building policies. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
Working conditions is required to work various weekend, day and evening shifts, as assigned.
