Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

We are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Supervisor to oversee daily operations in our fleet maintenance shop. In this safety-sensitive role, you will lead a team of skilled technicians, coordinate work activities, and ensure all maintenance and repairs meet our high standards for quality and safety. Your leadership will be essential to keeping our fleet reliable and our operations running smoothly.

As a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, You Will:
- Supervise, train, and coordinate the work assignments of 4 - 15 employees in the Fleet Maintenance Department.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Rapid policies and procedures, as well as applicable laws.
- Motivate, mentor, train, instruct employees involved in the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles to ensure a high quality of work is achieved and maintained.
- Coordinate the work activities of subcontractors involved in the maintenance and servicing of vehicles.
- Inspect completed work and road test vehicles to ensure quality of work performed and conformance to maintenance standards.
- Study maintenance schedules, estimate work hour requirements for job assignments, schedule work for technicians.
- Provide assistance and guidance to technicians in analyzing and resolving work problems.
- Administer Collective Bargaining Agreement, acts as first line of dispute resolution.
- Coordinate activities with Parts Room to ensure that parts, equipment, and tools are requisitioned in a timely manner.
- Perform basic parts room duties such as issue parts, parts receiving and stocking, perform cycle counts, recommend stocking levels, monitor fuels, fluids and janitorial supplies, and related duties as assigned by the Director of Fleet Maintenance.
- Maintain paperwork and computer files as needed for vehicles and equipment.
- Oversee vehicle fueling sites, sub-contractors, and operation of the sites. Manage the workflow and fueling processes.
- Interact courteously and professionally with customers, vendors, and fellow employees regarding vehicle repairs and other Maintenance Department business.
- Provide assistance to the Director of Fleet Maintenance in the overall administration of departmental responsibilities, and in other maintenance locations.
What We're Looking For - Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED plus,
- 5 year's full-time technician experience (including vocational schooling) with vehicle a GVWR of =/> 10,001 lbs., OR
- Bachelor's degree in science, applied science or engineering with a concentration in heavy equipment, automotive or diesel technology; alternate fuel program certification is a plus. Working knowledge of the theory, principles, operation, maintenance, overhaul, repair, and troubleshooting of various vehicle systems. Experience in managing day-to-day vehicle maintenance operations, predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance compliance, OR
- Associate's degree in science, applied science or engineering with a concentration in heavy equipment, automotive or diesel technology and 3 years full-time experience in maintenance of vehicles with a GVWR of =/> 10,001 lbs.; alternate fuel program certification a plus, OR
- Military service as a motor sergeant or equivalent (MOS 91B) wheeled vehicle maintenance and honorable discharge (DD214 needed).
ASE certification is preferred or any equivalent combination of education and experience as defined above.
Other Requirements:
Certificates & Licenses - must have a valid Michigan Driver's License and able to obtain a Class B CDL with passenger endorsement and chauffeur's license. Maintain a valid Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
Other Requirements - Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical and drug screening. Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend and interpret technical service information and have technical and mechanical aptitude with diesel equipment.
Physical Demands:
Posture - Prolonged standing, short walking, various trunk positions have to be maintained for prolonged periods when performing repairs; sitting only during bus inspections and break periods. Requires normal trunk mobility, bending of knees, normal cervical mobility, full shoulder mobility, normal elbow/wrist/hand mobility.
Force Required - Lumbar lifting, (floor to waist) up to 85 pounds; cervical lifting (waist to overhead) up to 77 pounds; pushing/pulling isometric ally up to 62 pounds; dynamically 32 pounds; carrying up to 62 pounds.
Repetitions - Aforementioned tasks occur throughout the workday in repair of buses.

- Salary Range: $60,854 - $73,025 (compensation to commensurate with education and experience)
