Description: The Executive Vice President Science, Chief Scientist, is responsible for the strategic direction, management, and execution of all scientific programs and initiatives. This includes oversight of technical and project management staff, as well as financial administration of the department’s programs. The role requires collaboration with internal leadership and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic goals and the broader interests of the cosmetics and personal care industry.
Requirements: Provide strategic and operational leadership for all scientific programs and staff, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Oversee the financial planning and management of the Science Department’s programs and initiatives.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders and the President to address key issues, ensuring timely and effective communication to diverse audiences.
Inspire, lead, and mentor science staff; support career development and foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
Drive the achievement of departmental goals through effective leadership, planning, and execution.
Provide strategic guidance and support to Science Committees and staff to ensure delivery of goals aligned with the Association’s strategic plan and industry objectives.
Serve as the lead for various internal and external Scientific Committees, including SACX, CIR SSC, Environmental Safety, Global Environmental Safe Science Project (GESSP), Quality, International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredients Committee, Microbiology, Sustainability, Safety/Regulatory/Toxicology, and Color Additives, as well as NGO and stakeholder groups.
Represent the industry in engagements with scientific experts, member companies, allied associations, regulators, and interested parties.
Build and maintain relationships with scientific and regulatory organizations to form coalitions and advance industry initiatives.
Serve as the Council’s scientific spokesperson in public forums, media interviews, and meetings with government agencies.
Partner with Public Affairs to develop scientific communication materials for media, the PCPC website, educational seminars, beauty editor events, legislators, and global organizations.
Prepare and submit public comments and position papers to support regulatory and policy initiatives.
Represent the Council at national and international conferences to enhance visibility, build strategic partnerships, and advance scientific collaboration.
Ensure the development and execution of high-quality scientific programming for the Annual Science Symposium.
Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders including regulators, academics, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and the medical community.
Act as the industry liaison at Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel meetings and present key scientific information to panel members.

QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in chemistry, biology or other related scientific disciplines – Ph.D. preferred
Twenty years of post-university work experience preferably in the cosmetics and personal care industry in various technical functions.
Relevant industry and association experience preferred.
Must be willing to travel
Superb written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
