POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, organizes and coordinates the Citys emergency preparedness and emergency response programs and activities. The Emergency Services Coordinator works closely with all City departments, Salt Lake County, Utah County, the State of Utah and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in developing a unified approach to emergency preparedness and emergency response to events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Reviews, maintains, and recommends updates to the Citys Emergency Operations Plan and Hazard Mitigation Plan to the City Council.
- Coordinates the Citys Emergency Operations Plan and Hazard Mitigation Plan with Salt Lake County, Utah County, the State of Utah and federal agencies.
- Develops and organizes programs to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural, technological, or terrorism related disasters.
- Prepares, maintains and updates mutual aid agreements or emergency plans with government agencies and other organizations as needed.
- Assists schools, medical facilities, businesses and industry in the preparation of emergency plans; coordinates as necessary with other groups in the city; such as, churches, religious organizations, schools, Lions Club, and others civic organizations.
- Attends monthly meetings with different emergency management resident groups.
- Organizes the Citys emergency related plans and activities with city departments; plans and coordinates exercises and events related to emergency preparedness and emergency situations according to the needs of the City, including emergency drills and shakeouts.
- Serves as the Citys representative to County and regional emergency planning and preparedness committees and other related organizations; develops and fosters relationships with agencies and or individuals that will aid and assist the City in responding to emergencies.
- Prepares and distributes emergency planning and preparedness handouts and informational materials to businesses and residents; makes presentations to community organizations and businesses.
- Conducts vulnerability assessment of city facilities to determine potential types and locations of damage due to natural disasters and special hazards needing emergency response.
- Supports HAM radio volunteers by including them in neighborhood drills and attending their meetings, as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains a yearly budget for the Citys emergency service-related functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Experience Two years of experience in emergency management, fire and rescue services, public relations or a related field. Individuals with previous work experience in disaster response at a local municipal level preferred.
- License and Certification Valid Utah Driver's License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of
- Current practices and trends in emergency management
- Local, state, and federal emergency management programs and requirements
- The National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS)
- Skilled with
- Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, department directors, and officials of other jurisdictions
- Analyze emergency situations and make appropriate recommendations
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed primarily in office, vehicle and outdoor settings, in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes, during day and night shifts. Work is often performed in emergency and stressful situations. Exposed to hearing alarms and hazards associated with emergency situations. fighting fires and rendering emergency medical assistance, including bodily fluids, smoke noxious odors, fumes, chemicals, liquid chemicals, solvents and oils. Work assignments are broad and performed with little or no supervision. Tasks require a variety of physical activities. Regularly required to talk, hear, see, walk, sit, stand, reach, use hands/finger to feel, handle, and grip, climb or balance and stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. May be confined to small spaces to perform work. Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. (Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions.) Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dusty or greasy conditions. Frequent exposure to high levels of noise. Operate equipment and drive vehicles. Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Monday to Friday up to 28-29 hours per week. (Schedule to be determined.)
- Salary range: $21.11-$35.22 (Starting wage is dependent on experience.)
