Summary

The VA Long Beach Healthcare System is announcing the following detail opportunity for the role of the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services. The healthcare system consists of a Medical Center in Long Beach, CA, and 6 Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The medical center is a 315 bed facility providing primary, secondary, and tertiary care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and community living services to a major metropolitan catchment area.

This Detail/Temporary Promotion is NTE 120 days, with the option to extend up to 12 months. Supervisory Approval is Required

This position is of an executive nature comprised of complex leadership and administrative components. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services. As the Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services you will function as a member of the senior executive leadership team. You will have the responsibility for ensuring the continuous and timely availability of quality nursing services, and will provide oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within nursing. You will have overall management of nursing practice, and will serve as the catalyst for the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals.

NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification.

The following Scope, Education and Dimension criteria must be met to qualify for Nurse V:



Preferred Experience: DNP preferred. 3-5 years executive leadership preferred; proven ability to demonstrate the tenants of Servant Leadership; the ideal candidate will also have extensive experience in leading lean organizations and well-versed leading process improvement activities; Experience with multiple healthcare groups.

Physical Requirements: This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. In the performance of duties, the incumbent may be required to drive and/or ride in government vehicles.
