The Children’s Director will bring vision, creativity, and innovation to the FBC Children’s Ministry through the design and implementation of a comprehensive ministry to children and their parents that integrates the discipleship strategy as prescribed by the Associate Pastor. This ministry must provide a safe, caring environment that helps advance FBC’s mission of “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ.”
The Children’s Director will be responsible for all children’s programming and activities for children ages 4 through fifth grade, and assist the Nursery Director to ensure a safe, welcoming, Christ- centered progression from nursery through 5th grade. Position includes supervision of lay leaders and volunteers, curriculum development & implementation, program development, and budget & resource development and planning.
Reponsibilities:
Ministry:
Manage and oversee all aspects of children’s ministries at FBC;
Serve as advocate, role model, spiritual mentor, and encourager of our children and their families;
Fulfill basic pastoral responsibilities for children and their families, including visitation and spiritual care;
Research, select, and develop long range curriculum and educational tools that are appropriate to each age level;
Develop (Refine) and implement a Child Protection Policy;
Develop a strategy to partner with parents to help them enhance their ability to disciple their children within the home;
Develop and oversee summer Children’s Ministry strategy.
Work closely with the Director of Student Ministries to assure that students leaving the Children’s Ministry have a smooth transition to Student Ministries.
Work closely with Nursery Director to assure that children leaving the nursery have a smooth transition to Children’s Ministry.
Communicate, by word and example, a relationship with Jesus as Savior and a life lived in obedience to God’s will as described in the Bible in order to advance the cause of Jesus Christ. Strengthen and build up the children of FBC, and equip them for mission in the church, the community, and the world;
Attend weekly staff meetings and bi-annual ministry goal setting meetings.
Devote regular periods of time to prayer for family, church, and Children’s Ministry.
Leadership Development:
Develop a Children’s ministry recruitment strategy to recruit and maintain sufficient volunteers to staff existing and new children’s ministries, assist Nursery Director in strategizing for recruiting and maintaining sufficient volunteers to staff existing and new nursery ministries.
Encourage and empower Children’s Ministry volunteers to carry out the ministry by providing all necessary resources needed to minister to children, including training and materials;
Regularly meet with and encourage volunteer leaders;
Equip members of the church body and volunteer Children’s Ministry staff to make disciples,
encouraging use of each member’s spiritual gifts;
Model the mission of FBC by personally helping people connect with Jesus;
Qualifications
Personal:
Be a born again Christian with a desire to grow in godliness;
Love and prioritize spouse (if married) and family;
Model servant leadership
Ensure personal professional development and spiritual accountability
Represent Christ in the community;
Spiritual giftedness and abilities in the area of Ministry and Leadership;
Beliefs consistent with FBC’s “Affirmation of Belief”;
Commit to membership with FBC;
Participation in Discipleship Group is preferred.
Successful completion of a background check.
Experience:
Proven ability to effectively teach, minister to, mentor, coach and encourage others individually or in groups;
Ability to effectively recruit, train, encourage, motivate and mentor volunteer leaders;
Educational background in Children’s Ministry or Elementary Education is preferred;
Demonstrated ability to work with people (children and adults);
Demonstrated call to Children’s Ministry with a clear ability to communicate the Word of God
clearly and creatively.
