Childcare Substitute Afterschool Group Leader

This is the perfect role for individuals who want to be part of our mission-driven team but can't commit to a full five-day workweek. Our substitutes fill in at various afterschool program sites within a dedicated school district and are a vital part of creating a safe, fun, and enriching environment for children.
What We're Looking For:
Availability 2-3 days a week
Flexibility to respond to on-call (weekday) requests within 24 hours
Willingness to travel between sites within the assigned school district

Requirements: Must meet and follow Texas Health and Human Services state license standards, including passing background checks.
Minimum age: 18 years; Education: High School Degree/G.E.D. or higher.
Previous childcare experience preferred but not required.
Complete required childcare training aligned with the YMCA, Texas Health and Human Services, Texas Workforce, and Texas Rising Star.
Keep an accurate daily count of children and follow policy/procedure to ensure each child is accounted for.
Report staff or child incidents, accidents, or suspected child abuse to the supervisor and follow policy/procedure for completing reports after each occurrence.
Assist with safety drills to practice site evacuation and emergency procedures for fire, inclement weather, lockdown, etc., and can implement such procedures.
Ability to work independently and lead groups through enrichment and recreational activities.
Stand and walk for long periods to provide proper auditory and visual supervision of each child's ongoing activity, carry at least 30 pounds when needed, and go from sitting to standing with ease.
Encourage creativity and intellectual curiosity by building on the child's interests and talents.
Portray a positive role model for youth by maintaining an attitude of respect, loyalty, patience, integrity, courtesy, and maturity.
Maintain a strong, positive relationship with the local YMCA personnel to ensure our community connection to that branch, as well as communicating effectively with parents and co-workers.
Actively support the YMCA's mission and community impact by participating in philanthropic initiatives, including engagement in the Annual Campaign to help raise awareness and funds.
