Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead the clinical and technological development of our novel DBS platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in bioelectronic medical device development and regulatory strategy, specifically in guiding products through 510k Approvals, Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) and Premarket Approval (PMA) pathways with the FDA. As a key member of the executive team, the CDO will be responsible for shaping the company’s technology roadmap, overseeing clinical trials, and ensuring successful regulatory approvals.
Key Responsibilities Technology & Product Development Lead the development and commercialization of the company’s next-generation deep brain stimulation device.
Oversee system architecture, software, hardware, and algorithm development to ensure compliance with medical device standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including neuroscience, engineering, regulatory, data science, and clinical affairs, to drive product innovation.
Regulatory & Clinical Strategy Develop and execute regulatory strategies to secure 510k approval for a first generation device, followed by IDE approval for clinical trials and PMA approval for market entry.
Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, and other relevant regulatory and quality system requirements.
Provide leadership in clinical trial design, execution, and data analysis to demonstrate device safety and efficacy.
Serve as a liaison with the FDA, Notified Bodies, and other regulatory agencies.
Leadership & Team Management Build and mentor a high-performing R&D and clinical development team
Drive cross-functional collaboration to align technical development with business and commercial objectives
Represent the company in investor meetings, scientific conferences, and industry forums
Minimum Qualifications Advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in bioelectronic medical device development, with a focus on neuromodulation or deep brain stimulation.
Proven track record of successfully leading medical devices through IDE and PMA regulatory pathways.
Experience working with FDA, clinical investigators, and regulatory agencies.
Strong understanding of neurophysiology, signal processing, and brain-computer interface technologies.
Expertise in implantable medical device design, clinical trials, and quality management systems (QMS).
Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with closed-loop neuromodulation and machine learning applications in bioelectronics.
Previous experience as a CTO or VP of R&D in a neurotechnology startup or medical device company.
Experience securing grant funding and collaborating with research institutions.
