Title of Position Chemical Tech Posting Location Abilene, TX Department Landscape & Grounds Employee Class Nonexempt Full-time Basic Responsibilities Works as directed by the Chemical Manager or immediate supervisor.
Provide pest control services.
Chemically treat weeds and fertilize designated areas of campus.
Continue to train & develop to the highest levels and degrees
Assist other departments in operations Essential Duties Works as directed by the Chemical Manager or immediate supervisor. Follow established rules & guidelines established by operations. Supervise student workers assigned to your area. Order materials & supplies for the completion of daily tasks. Fill out work orders & written documentation. Be available to respond to after-hours emergency issues.
Provide pest control services. Maintain a proactive pest control program for all ACU owned facilities. Respond to work request from campus in a timely manner (same day). Manage all pest control needs on the campus grounds. Coordinate specialized pest control needs such as bed bug, termite and bee control with selected vendor.
Chemically treat weeds and fertilize designated areas of campus. Maintain an aggressive weed-killing and fertilizer program. Maintain a pre-emergent program in beds and turf areas. Over-seed selected areas of campus with rye grass in the fall. Chemically treat all weeds in turf areas, bed areas, hardscape areas & around trees.
Continue to train & develop to the highest levels and degrees Complete appropriate continuing education credits for license. Stay in compliance with TDA and maintain chemical application records. Repair & maintain equipment to maintain the resources of the university. Build relationships with other operations personnel in the sense of teamwork. Continue to look for ways to operate more efficiently and effectively.
Assist other departments in operations Display initiative to work by one’s self or in groups. Help keep campus clean and clear of trash. Must come in early & assist in spreading of ice melt during inclement weather. Professional Development Requirements Skills Knowledge of hand & power tools.
Skilled in all areas of irrigation, weed control & fertilization.
Operate large equipment such as mowers, backhoe, ditchwitch, and bobcat. Training Modules Required Computer training
Turf training
Chemical training Qualifications Professional High school diploma or GED
Minimum of five years in Turf Management
Chemical license for chemicals
Valid U.S. drivers license Personal Honest and responsible
Good moral character
Neat and clean Physical Demands Good health; able to work in extreme heat & cold.
Must be able to climb a ladder
Must be able to lift & carry a minimum of fifty pounds.
