Description
Shop Service Technician in our Chassis department is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repair, and maintenance of various types of heavy machinery with a focus on quality and efficiency. This role requires a high level of technical expertise and a strong commitment to very high safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while working on site to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Perform work with efficiency and within dealership flat rate guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as PM Services, filter replacements, tire checks, and fluid checks.
- Replace faulty components, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic pumps and lines, cylinders and a variety of other components.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, telehandlers and backhoes.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to test and troubleshoot complex machinery operations and malfunctions.
- Repair or replace parts such as engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and undercarriage components.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with Caterpillar's Contamination Control Guidelines and ensure tools and equipment are maintained and stored properly
- Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics in SIS to support repair work.
- Provide technical advice and support to other technicians on proper equipment repair and maintenance.
- Ensure that machines are repaired according to Caterpillar standards.
- Keep detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and services performed on equipment by utilizing Cat Interact and write accurate and detailed service reports.
- Attend all hands-on training and attend relevant technical classes to further develop your skills & knowledge.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Trade school or technical education in heavy equipment repair is a plus.
- Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems in heavy machinery.
- Must have and maintain a standard set of Mechanics tooling including up to &fac34; drive.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- At least 5 - 6 years of Caterpillar experience repairing machines.
- Knowledge of Caterpillar software and programs a plus.
- You must be willing to work in other departments when necessary to care of the customers' needs.
